When you bring your lunch to school, do you use a lunch box instead of a paper bag? Pack food in reusable containers. use a thermos or other reusable container for your drink. Purchase snacks in bulk to save on extra packaging. Better yet, try a piece of fresh fruit–it comes in its own packaging.

Lots of energy goes into manufacturing new products. So lots of carbon dioxideis added to the air when things are made. Think you could go withour buying anything new for a week or a month (except essential school supplies, food, and medicine, of course)?
Challenge your friends to see who can go the longest. Instead of buying new things (clothes, CDs, DVDs), try scouting out neighborhood garage sales, or have a clothes swap with your friends. Think of it as a treasure hunt.
